Starting from Bascov village and extending over about 151 km, Transfăgărăşan is the well-known road leading to the realm in the top of the mountain. Linking Muntenia and Transylvania, Transfăgărăşan offers unforgettable landscapes to those who cross its paths and is waiting for them at the end of the road with a breathtaking view from 2034 meters altitude, where they will meet the wonderful place called Bâlea Lake.

Although Transfăgărșsan is closed during the cold season, tourists can go up to Bâlea Lake with the help of the aerial tramway, which has the tariff of 30 lei for a climb and 30 lei for a descent.

This season, at Bâlea Lake, you can do something out of the ordinary and spend a night in the Ice Hotel. It is the only hotel built entirely of snow and ice blocks extracted from Bâlea Lake itself. The rate for a double room in the Ice Hotel is 440 lei for one night or, if you want more privacy, you can opt for an igloo, its price being 660 lei for one night. Also, if you do not cope with the cold, you can stay at Bâlea Chalet, a friendly place with a lot of heat. The price of one night at the chalet starts from 240 lei for one night.
